Chapter One: The Beginning
It was a warm spring day. There was a slight breeze tickling the air, ruffling the leaves in trees. A nearly completed castle could be seen through the trunks and low hanging brush. Only two dormitories and the Great Hall needed to be finished, as well as the tallest tower. The whole massive building was made of stone, carefully laid out without a single mistake.
The castle was surrounded by; a lake, mountains and a dense forest. The castle’s immense structure was breath-taking with it’s many towers and windows but the mountains, lake, and forest could each swallow it whole.
At this time the forest was a happy place. The trees were full of green leaves, their trunks were a deep rich brown and you could here the life in the forest; a rabbit hopping along, a fox chasing something, a deer nibbling on the brush.
But there was another sound, the voices of two men. They were sitting beneath one of the large oaks, both looked to be in their mid-forties. One of the men was pale with long stringy black hair, his voice was oily, pitched too high and came out in a slow drawl. The other looked as if he had been kissed by the sun, his voice seemed to be touched by the sun as well, deep and rich yet lively as if fairies were singing just to complement his voice.
"I will only teach those of pure blood with lots of ambition." stated the pale one playing with a blade of grass.
"As you will." said the sun kissed one with just a touch of laughter in his voice.
After a short silence the pale one with the drawl in his voice said impatiently, "Well, who will you teach? Probably those who have your stupid since of bravery." he finished with a sneer.
"What an excellent idea Sal!” he piped up with a grin on his face. “I will teach those with a brave and noble heart."
"You’re mocking me Godric." said Sal, irritation leaking into his voice. “You know I detest that kind of behavior.”
"Oh no Salazar. I meant it." said Godric. He looked up at the sky through the leaves and smiled, eyes closed, as a warm breeze touched his face and played through his hair. He added as if it were an afterthought. "I wonder if Helga and Rowena have decided who they will teach?"
"You won't have long to wait," said Salazar sitting up. "Here they come and they don't look too happy with us."
"What?" Godric croaked, he opened his eyes looked towards the castle just in time to see the two women storming across the grounds toward them.
One of the women was tall and slim with long curly black hair and the face of an angel. The other was short and plump with hair the color of fire. Even her eyes took on the same flaming red color as her hair and she looked ready to explode.
"Just what do the two of you think you are doing?" demanded the short one with a voice use to command, each word clipped and distinct.
"Helga, we were just taking a...." Salazar started pointing at Godric.
"THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE!" Helga exploded, the nearby animals scattering in fear.
The other woman came up and laid a hand on Helga’s shoulder in comfort “Now Helga, we agreed I would do the talking." she said in a small, but stern voice.
"Oh sorry Rowena," said Helga, taking a deep breath and stepping back. "Go ahead."
"Godric, Salazar,” Rowena began looking at both the men in turn. “The four of us agreed to build this castle....together. It was your idea to make it of stone, Godric, you really should be there with us. Nothing this big has ever been tried before. We..."
"I think I understand." Godric interrupted, raising his hand. He looked at Salazar then at Helga and Rowena. "You need our help."
"Yes." said Helga as if she'd been holding her breath, stepping forward she continued. "Godric, you need to finish the Great Hall. Salazar, are the secret passages out of the castle completed yet?"
"No."
"Alright then, we each have work to do."
Godric and Salazar got up and walked with the women back to the castle. It was a short walk since the forest was close to it. When they got inside the castle, Salazar went toward the dungeons. Godric, Helga, and Rowena stayed in the hall.
"He lied, just like you said he would Godric." said Rowena softly after she’d watched Salazar disappear down a passage and out of sight. "Helga and I checked the passages before we came to get you. They are all done."
"What do you think he's doing down there?" asked Helga.
"I don't know, but I intend to find out." said Godric. "I think, from this moment on, we need to watch him very carefully." Godric looked back at the passageway he’d just seen Salazar disappear in. He waited until Rowena and Helga went about their business then said softly, “Sal, if you’ve gone back on your word...” He left the rest of that thought unanswered, shook his head and stepped into the great hall to finish the ceiling.

Chapter Two: The Chamber
Salazar knew it was only a matter of time before Godric suspected him of going back to using dark magic. So instead of going to the dungeons, he waited in the shadow of the stairs to listen to what Godric, Helga, and Rowena had to say.
After listening to them, he leaned back against the wall, anger seething through him burning in his veins. "So they think to watch me from now on ehhh." breathed Salazar with resentment, "We'll just see about that."
As soon as the others went to work in other parts of the castle, Salazar left his hiding place and went to the second floor, his black robes billowing behind him. One of his greatest achievements in the castle was the many bathing rooms he had installed. He thought it was funny keeping the discovery of running water from the Muggles, as he liked to call them.
As he reached his destination, a bathroom he had built for his own purposes, he remembered fondly the day he made the first door to his hidden chamber below.
It was a warm balmy night. The light from the full moon was streaming in through the windows. The room was almost complete, he just had one sink, a special sink, left to make. He could hear a hissing sound coming from a corner of the room.
The others were asleep, he knew they were. He made it a point to know where all their, so called, hidden sleeping chambers were located. Oh how easy it would be to slip in to their little sanctuaries and finish them off one by one, but no, someone else would only come and take over for them. That would not do. No, he wanted them alive, to call forth the little dirty bloods to study magic. Yes, yes that's it.
He looked into the corner where the hissing sound was coming from and hissed "Come to me."
A large snake slithered from out of the corner and came to a stop at his feet, then raised itself up to look into his eyes.
"Ah yes, such beautiful creatures, snakes." He caressed the snake behind it’s head then hissing, he said, "I have a special job for you. I will turn you into a sink. You will live a very long life this way. You will watch and wait. You will only let those pass by you who are of my blood and speak your tongue."
Then he transfigured the snake into an exact replica of the other sinks in the room with one exception, a tiny figure of the creature it once was transposed on the pipe beneath it.
Salazar found himself standing in front of the transfigured snake. He caressed the tiny figure much as he had the actual snake it had been, then he stepped back and hissed, "Open for me, your master."
The tap began to glow with a brilliant white light and turned upside down to unlock the door. Then the sink sank into the floor to reveal a circular hole that led into darkness.
He slid down the tunnel and came out in a cave he had discovered while preparing the escape passages for the castle. He walked for several minutes before coming to a round door with 7 snakes upon it, all with their mouths clamped on bars along the outside rim of the door and a tube like hinge on one side.
"Open for me, your master." he hissed again and out of the tube hinge, another snake appeared and began to follow an groove along the inside rim of the door. As it approached each of the 7 snakes, they let go of the bar with a hiss which echoed throughout the cave. When the other snake reentered the tube hinge on the other side the door opened.
Salazar entered a chamber where he had transfigured several snakes into statues of overlarge snake heads in various striking positions. These lined the entrance hall, leading to a large hollow statue of his own face when he would be at his strongest. A time he looked forward to when not even Godric Gryffindor would be able to stop him.
He walked into a room off the left side of the entrance. As it was his workroom, it was large, oval shaped, with a large oval stone work table, echoing the room’s structure. A wooden chair sat next to the table belying the room’s only occupant and a snake slithered about on the floor. On the table was a cauldron, which steamed and bubbled, and an old roll of parchment. Salazar walked over to the table, sat down in the chair and unrolled the parchment.
He studied the parchment for what seemed like hours, then rolled it up and looked down at the snake slithering at his feet. "You know Herpo," he said casually to the snake, "One of these days, you're going to have to tell me how to decipher your scroll."
The snake moved away from him and slowly began growing slimy little arms and legs. A few seconds later, where the snake had been, an old man was sitting on the floor beddraggled except for his eyes, they were sharp and full of sadness, anger and suspicion.
"You'll have to release me first." Herpo said in a high pitched, almost childlike voice.
"No, you are still useful to me as you are," said Salazar. "I can't have you running to Gryffindor, now can I?"
"You know, it's only a matter of time before he realizes you've gone back on your word not to use dark magic." Herpo said smugly.
"Ah, my pet, by the time he does," said Salazar with a longing in his voice, "it will be too late."
Salazar got up from his chair and went to the other end of the table where his cauldron sat making little bubbling sounds. He took a dagger from his robes and cut his arm. He let the blood drip into the cauldron where it hissed loudly. Then he spit into the mixture and silver smoke rose up from it.
"My essence," he said in almost a whisper, "shall remain in the castle, long after I am gone to help guide my heir. Once I decipher your scroll, old man, I will have the perfect means to destroy all the Muggle born who will come here to study magic. Then someday, all Muggles!" he laughed long and hard. An insane laugh.
"You never told me why you hate them so much." said the old man thoughtfully. "I've never told anyone, Herpo." said Salazar, a mad glow in his eyes. "Muggles killed my entire family. I can still hear them screaming for mercy. The villagers laughed, Herpo, as they maimed, as they tortured them. They left me alone, made me watch everything. Told me 'This is what happens to those who are filthy and unclean!'. I was only 4 and they thought I was harmless.” He laughed mirthlessly. “Those fools! I killed them, Herpo.” He said rounding on the tiny man. “Every last one of them. It took me 3 years, but I did it."
Salazar laughed again cold and insane making the tiny little man cower and slink back into the corner, the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end and he knew he’d never see the sunlight again.

Chapter Three: Elves and Jellyfish part 1
A few days later Salazar went into the kitchen for some breakfast, his mouth watering from the smells of Helga’s cooking. Helga and Rowena were already there sitting at a long scrubbed wooden table their plates loaded with scrambled eggs and a stack of browned bread between them.
Helga got up from the table and got another plate and fork for Salazar and placed them on the other side of the table from her and Rowena and said in a cheery voice, “Eat up Salazar we have a great deal to do today and Godric isn’t here to help us so you’ll have to pick up the slack.”
Salazar stopped with his hand on the back of his chair and stared from Rowena to Helga and asked, “Where is he?”
“Gone.” Rowena said looking up from her plate and went on with a bit of irritation, “You know how he is Salazar.”
“He’ll be back in a few days,” Helga added in the same cheery voice as she sat back down in her seat. “You know he sometimes needs to get away.” She looked at Rowena and said thoughtfully, “I think we expect too much from him and he tries, bless ‘em.”
She went back to her eggs and toast, completely ignoring Salazar. Rowena followed suit leaving Salazar to sit down and fill his plate.
“They are hiding something.” He thought to himself, then he said aloud, “Inconvenient time for him to disappear like that if you ask me.” He looked from one woman to the other then added when they didn’t acknowledge him, “The castle is nearly finished. We need to discuss the students we will accept. What could be more important than that? What could he be thinking?”
Rowena put her fork down with tolerable patience and looked dully at Salazar. “I suspect we’ll be finding out soon enough Salazar.” she said in a pinched voice that told Salazar it would be best for him if he were to drop the subject.
Somewhere far away from the castle a beautiful bird with red and gold plumage was soaring gracefully through the air. It circled a lush forest dipping low then raising back up several times before coming to land silently on the branch of a large tree.
The bird co cked it’s head to one side as it stared down at the forest floor. It was littered with little green and brown creatures all with big bat-like ears and large round eyes. The creatures were gathered together and talking fast and high pitched. Every once in a while, one or all of them would jump and look around shaking in fright.
“They know we are here.” said one of the creatures clutching at his neighbor.
“They are coming for us.” said another nearly jumping with fear.
“They are coming for us.” said another kneeling and grabbing at the earth.
“This is our last hiding place,” said yet another of the creatures looking about the trees of it’s home. “We have no where else to go.”
“Yes you do.” said a deep, rich voice from the trees above them. The creatures yelped like whipped dogs and jumped away from the tree where the voice sounded. They looked up and saw a man sitting on a branch in the nearest tree.
“GRYFFINDOR!,” shouted the creatures as one as Godric jumped silently down from the branch that once supported a red and gold plumaged bird. The creatures swarmed around him, all wanting to touch his hands. “It’s been ages and ages since we last saw you, sir!”
Godric kneeled down in the midst of green and brown figures. “Ah, my fine little friends, it pains me to see you in such a state as this.” he said with sadness in every syllable he spoke. “But I have a job for you, if you’ll take it.”
“Anything sir!” shouted one of the brown creatures.
“If you can save us from the humans.” another added.
“Yes, anything!” shouted the others this time jumping with anticipation.
Godric nodded and choosing his words carefully said, “I and three of my friends, all fine witches and wizard, have built a castle we intend to use as a school.” He looked around at the creatures surrounding him, all of them were watching him with rapt attention so he went on, “If you would go to the castle and tend it for us, we will protect you and yours forever from the humans.”
As Godric quieted several of the creatures began looking thoughtfully at each other. One, a light brown one, came up to him and said nervously, “But sir, what if we go to your castle school and we are not liking it sir?”
He smiled at the creature fondly and said, “I will not hold you there and neither will those who come after me.” he paused checking to see if they were listening to him. They were wide eyed and sharp eared so he continued, “If you do not like it at the castle or you become attached to one of the students, you will be free to leave whenever you wish.”
The creatures moved away from him to talk about his offer in private. Only one stayed behind to sit with him, the light brown one who asked the question of him before.
“Why do you not go with your friends to talk about what I said,” he asked curiously.
“Dobbien knows what he is wanting to do sir,” said the little creature with more bravery in his voice than Godric expected to be there. “Dobbien wishes to be with the magic sir. The magic is leaving, leaving quickly, and Dobbien doesn’t like it.” Dobbien turned to look at his fellows and went on, “If they do not go with you, I will. Safer with you than out here where the humans can find us.”
The other creatures all looked up at Dobbien’s statement and nodded. They hopped over to where Godric and Dobbien were and one of the creatures came forward and said timidly, “We will go with you sir. We will tend the castle school and all who will live there with you.”
“Wonderful!” said Godric smiling. “Now all I have to do is write a letter to the others explaining what you are going to do for us and send you and it on your way there.”
“But sir,” Dobbien said urgently, “you are not coming with us?”
Godric looked down at Dobbien and then at the others. “Do not fear my friends at the castle, they will look after you as you will look after them.” This did not console the creatures as he saw the fear creep back into their posture. “I will only be a day or two behind you my little friends. I will be with you before you have time to miss my presence.”
This, he noticed, did console them for they began to relax again. He decided to act quickly, he took a wand from his robes and conjured parchment, quill and ink from thin air. He sat down and fanned the quill beneath his chin in thought. “How by my Father’s beard am I to word this?” he asked, more to himself than to the creatures gazing intently at him. Finally he decided to make it short and simple, he could fill them in with more detail when he returned in a few days.
Helga, Row, and Sal
The creatures delivering this letter are called Forest Elves. The humans have hunted them to near non-existence and I have offered them our School as their home. They will take care of it and us. Will explain more later. Expect me a few days after reading this.
Godric
He pointed his wand at the letter and grinned when it glowed for an instant with a life of it’s own. “Here my friends,” he said turning to the Elves. “I have turned this letter into a portkey. It will take you to the Great Hall of the castle. When you arrive give the letter to one of the two women there, but not the man. Understand?”
The Elves nodded as he laid the parchment on the ground. They gathered round it now staring at it in awe. They each laid one long spindly finger on the parchment and disappeared with a pop.

chapter 3 part 1 1/2
Godric stood where he was for a moment, a look of concentration on his face. He had one more errand to run and not the least idea of where to start. He took a deep breath, placed his wand on top of his palm and said, “I know what I want. I know who I need. Point me the direction of the quickest lead.” His wand began to twirl on the top of his palm. It stopped suddenly with the tip pointing to the South.
“South it is then.” He stored his wand away and leapt up into the air in a dazzling flare of bright orange flames. The red and gold plumaged bird was back flaring out it’s wings mimicking the fire it had just emerged from and headed South.
He could fly very fast and every so often he would stop and do the Point Me spell. Eventually he found the rolling green hills and forests were replaced with a desert waste land, sand as far as the eye could see in every direction.
He spotted a structure and landed on it’s rooftop. Taking his wand from his robes again he began the spell again that would lead him to the person he wanted but stopped and listened.
An angry voice below him rang out, “I’VE DONE TOLT YE! I’M NOT HERE TO SPY ON YE! I’M HERE BECAUSE....”only to be interrupted by another voice speaking in a language Godric didn’t understand. The sound of a door closing and chains being drawn over it told him the other man had left. He chuckled as the man who had been cursing loudly and who he’d been looking for, said more softly, “Ah, yer Mother was a pile of sheep dung ya connivin’ piece of...”
“Are you sure you want to finish that?” Godric said landing in the middle of the tiny room amid a swirl of dust.
“Godric Fawkes Gryffindor!” the old man said a bit startled. “I never thought I’d ever see you again. How are you my boy?” The old man tried to get to his feet but the chains held him to the floor.
“Never mind me Uric,” said Godric with surprise, taking in the state his friend was in, his tattered cloths, long straggly hair that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years and the old man’s dry withered skin. “What’s happened to you? Why are you here? And why are you in chains?”
“Blast Egyptian Wizards and their secrets!” Uric cursed, “The European Wizarding Association sent me here as an envoy to ‘better our relations with other countries’.” he finished that in a singsong voice then made a retching sound. “Didn’t even bother to ask these people if they wanted me here, so when I showed up they threw me in here.” He waved around at the tiny dirt filled, one window cell and added sarcastically, “Best accommodations they have.”
“But why you?” Godric asked confused.
Uric raised an eyebrow at him, “Well my boy, they wanted you to come here but you were too busy with that school of yours to be bothered with it.” he stopped and grinned. “Is it finished?”
“Nearly.” said Godric. “Let’s get you out of here and then we’ll talk some more.”
Uric looked as if he’d cry as he said, “Oh please, I don’t even know how many days they’ve had me locked in here and it’s so dry.”
Godric looked at the chains closely. “Magic.” he murmured. “This may take a bit.” He got out his wand and started tapping the chains.
It took what felt like a lifetime to break through the chains that bound his friend to this little room. His anger rose like a lion inside him when he saw the marks they’d left on Uric’s wrists and ankles.
Uric, sensing danger coming said, “Another time. I’ve seen worse than this and so have you and on more helpless creatures.”
Godric took in a deep calming breath and replied, “You’re right Uric, revenge can wait. Right now I need to get you home.”
Godric transformed into the bird again much to the bemusement of Uric. “All the times I’ve seen him do that, it still amazes me.” He grabbed hold on the birds long tail feathers and both man and bird disappeared in a burst of flame.

chapter 3 - last part
When they reappeared it was with a splash. Sputtering, Uric emerged from the water. He looked up at the rocky coast with his little rundown cottage teetering on it’s cliff and the bright sun shining off the thatched roof. “I believe you missed boy.” he said to Godric as the young man splashed noisily over to him. “I swear, when are ye ever going to learn to swim properly?” he added wiping the water Godric had just hit him with. “Yer as graceful as that bird ye become in water.”
“Stop bleating and get us to the shore.” Godric sputtered through a mouthful of water. “Consider me fully chastised.”
Uric laughed, grabbed Godric round his neck and swum them both to the shore. Godric grabbed at the sand the moment he was close enough and hugged it, running his arms through the wet sand as if he’d never felt anything as good in his entire life.
When he finally stood up he looked as if he belonged back in the ocean. Sopping wet and covered from head to foot in dirty wet sand and seaweed clutching at his hair. Uric doubled over with laughter.
“What?” Godric asked indignantly.
“Yeh... yeh..” Uric struggled to speak. “Yeh look like a drowned cat!” Another wave of uncontrollable laughter followed this speech as Uric watched Godric take in his own appearance. “The look on yer face!” he added barely able to catch his breath, “So much for yer Greek god-hood!”
Godric widened his eyes in mock surprise. “That’s not funny. I was only a lad.”
“Ah but that didn’t keep the girls from swooning every time ye looked at them.” Uric added sobering a bit. “My daughter, Henrietta, thought ye were Apollo the first time she saw ye.”
Godric groaned, “Are you ever going to let me live that down.”
“Nope.” Uric said turning to head up the cliff side. “Not after the way ye strutted about, head full of fluff and clumsy to boot!”
Godric rolled his eyes heaven ward and trudged after the old man whose daughter had once thought he was sent from the gods just for her.
When Uric reached the top he turned to watch the young mans slow progress up the cliff. His eyes took on the look of a man who’s not shed one single tear in his whole life. ‘Ah me boy,’ he thought, ‘ye’d have been good for her. Both yer heads in the clouds. In love with life and helping the hapless creatures of the world. If only...’ he sighed and left the rest of the thought hang there in the slight ocean breeze. “Come on boy!” he shouted down to Godric. “Here I am an old man and I’ve outstripped ya!”
“Give off you old coot!” he growled back. “I’ve been using quite a bit of magic today.”
Uric nodded knowingly, “In that case, I’ll just go and fix ye somewhat to eat.” He turned to head on to his cottage and added, “But yer not comin’ in head to toe muck!”
Godric grumbled but kept on climbing, “Sure, why not.” After a few paces he started mumbling angrily, “Would you like a hand Godric? Do you need any help Godric? Can’t let an old man outstrip ya. Catch me on a good day old man and I’ll show ya fast.”
When he finally reached the top of the cliff it was to the smells of something cooking in the dingy little cottage Uric had called home for as long as Godric has known him.
He stumbled toward the smell of cooking bacon, so tired that he didn’t even know if it was his feet that let him to the door or his stomach. He stopped dead at the closed door to Uric’s warning, “Don’t even think I don’t know yer covered in muck.” he said in a cool even tone. “I can smell ye all the way in here.”
He gritted his teeth and let out a snarling breath. He touched the tip of his wand to the top of his head and all the dirt and sand disappeared. Completely dry and muck free he opened the door and stepped into Uric’s cottage.
Fed and watered, Godric felt as though he’d actually live. They were sitting in front of a fire in two very old and ragged arm chairs whose color had faded so much that you couldn’t tell what was once red and what was yellow. They each had a glass with some liquid the color of amber in it.
Godric found himself staring at the fire blazing in the hearth and he thought back to all the times he’d seen little fire newts playing in there regardless of how dangerous they were. He could remember when, upon asking the old man about it he’d gotten, “Ah, don’t ye worry bout ‘em boy. They’s no harm to none.” in return. He could have hit himself on the head for forgetting what he’d set out to do that morning. “Uric, I was wondering if I could ask you something?” he said quickly.
Uric breathed deeply and said in a dull tone, “Well ye just did, but I suppose ye could ask me another.”
Godric chuckled and shook his head. “Never could get anything past you.”
“Nope.” replied Uric. “Before ye ask me tha other question, I’d like ter ask one meself.”
“Go on.” Godric said bracing himself for the worst.
“Well Gryph, who did ye get to help ye besides Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff?” he asked as he swirled the liquid in his glass. “Ya said it would have to be a wizard. Ya said ‘everything has to be balanced’.”
Godric said as emotionless as possible, “Salazar Slytherin.” Then he braced himself for the tirade that was sure to follow and it did.
“Slytherin!” Uric yelped leaping from his seat, sending his drinking flying into the fireplace, to pace the room in front of him. “That slimey git? Are ye wantin’ ter be murdered in yer bed? Couldn’t ye ha found anyone else?”
Godric set his untouched drink down on the table that stood between the chairs as carefully as he could before answering. “He was the only one powerful enough and besides, he swore off dark magic.”
“And ya believe ‘em.” said a flabbergasted Uric as he sat back down. He took up Godric’s abandoned glass and drained it. “I thought I’d taught ye better than that boy.”
“Don’t worry old friend,” Godric said trying to sooth his friend’s fears. “I’m keeping an eye on him.”
Uric raised his eyebrows as he turned to look him up and down. “Doesn’t look like it to me.”
“Helga and Rowena are taking care of that while I’m away.” Godric said, instantly wishing he hadn’t mentioned Helga’s name.
“And tha’s another thing.” said Uric looking very disgruntled. “Why Helga Hufflepuff?” He shivered as he said the name as if recalling some long ago memory he’d rather as buried. “She’s the biggest shrew I’ve ever had the misfortune to lay eyes upon.”
Godric relaxed now the danger was over and chuckled, “Helga’s alright. Life is never dull with her around.” He was silent for a moment before he asked Uric what he wanted to ask him from the first. “Will you come back to the castle with me?” he plunged on before Uric could say anything. “I know you like your solitude and you can have that there. And Salazar might be going back on his word and then he might not, but who better to find out than you? And I need you there. I need someone who can teach the youngsters about magical creatures the way it needs to be taught.”
They sat in silence for a moment then Uric suddenly sprang from his seat and bustled off into another room, leaving Godric to wonder what the old man was up to now.
“I have somewhat for ye.” Uric said as he was coming back into the room. He was carrying a silver bowl as if it were a new born lamb. “A Scrying Bowl,” he said to Godric’s unanswered question. “Ye put water in it, call my name and I’ll know and get my own and we can have a nice chat.” He smiled at Godric like the madman he was rumored to be. “Tis more private than talkin’ through fire.”
Uric began ushering him out the door. “You’ve not answered my question you sly old man.” Godric said as he found himself outside with the smells of the ocean filling his lungs.
The old man closed his eyes for a moment, breathing in the air of home before he answered, “I’ll come, but it may take a few turns of the moon to get me there.” He patted Godric on the arm and took off from him at a run. He ran to the edge of the cliff and jumped whooping and hollering with joy the whole way.
By the time Godric got to the cliff’s edge, Uric’s head had emerged from the salty water. He laughed as hard as Uric did when he’d stood up from the sand a few scant hours before because plastered to the top of Uric’s head and looking as if it was not the first time it found itself there, was a jellyfish.

HEYLA.. glad you're enjoying this.. for a bit of background info..
the Uric in the story is none other than Uric the Oddball.. mentioned in the books and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them..
Uric the Oddball is number 18 on the Wizarding cards that Harry has to collect in the game Chamber of Secrets. It says "Medieval, dates unknown. Highly eccentric wizard who is famed for, amoung other things, wearing a jellyfish for a hat."
I'll work on Chapter 4 tomorrow.. it's near midnight now.

Chapter 4: The Heart of Darkness[/u]
He knew he should get back to the castle soon, but as he flew over the trees and the lakes he thought about Slytherin. Questions began to form; What if he didn’t truly give his word? What if he intends to harm the children? What if he tries to take over the school? What to do about all the dark magic that is in the world?'
That last question nearly sent him plummeting out of the sky. He realized that he was flying over a village and that he was seen, a large red and gold bird wasn’t too easy to hide. So before some young nobleman or other decided that he would make a good pet he disappeared in a burst of flame.
He reappeared on the other side of the forest, out of sight from the castle. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff knew of his ability to transform into a bird, but he felt uneasy every time he thought of Slytherin finding out about it.
He walked several feet lost in thought, ‘What if Salazar really has gone back on his word? What could I do about it and how can I protect everyone from his evil if he really has?
He stopped in front of a small tree he’d planted when he decided that this area would be perfect for his school. He bent down and caressed it’s leaves lovingly. His fingers stilled on the soft leaves, a look of dawning comprehension crossed over his features. “You,” Godric said aloud to the tree, “may be the answer to all my problems.”
He jumped up quickly and began walking again, this time with a smile on his face. He came to stop in front of a large stone at the foot of the mountain.
Taking his wand from his robes he tapped the stone and said, “Alohomora.” The stone wriggled then turned into a round door the same size as the stone that hid it. He stepped through the door and was plunged into darkness when the door became stone again.
Through the darkness his voice sounded out, “Ilumanora”, he replaced his wand in his robes as torches on both sides of him flamed and he could see the stairs going down. He followed them until they stopped and a long corridor started. The torches burst into flame as he approached them then sputtered out when he was past them. He walked quite a ways before coming to a dead end.
He chuckled at his own brilliance. Who would ever think a dead end could possibly be a doorway? Was his thought when he’d created this one. He pulled his wand from his robes again and tapped the two torches on either side of the dead end. The torches began to spin creating a wall of spinning flames. Godric took a powdery substance from a pocket in his robes and flung it at the spinning torches. The flame instantly turned a greenish color and he stepped through them into a room with a cheery fire burning in a large fireplace on the right hand wall, a caldron on the floor next to it, a large cushioned chair with an oval table took up the rest of the room.
On the table was an model of the castle, the grounds, the lake, the forest and the mountains. He walked over to it and on the corner of the table he set the Scrying Bowl Uric had sent with him.
He sat down in his chair and studied the forest, the lake and the mountains of his miniature version of the surrounding landscape. He mumbled, “Can I risk everything like this for something that might not even work?” before falling asleep.

Chapter Four: The Heart of Darkness con't
“Those elves are a menace!” shouted Slytherin as he stormed into the Great Hall for dinner that evening. “Everywhere I turn there’s one of those filthy little creatures asking me if I require anything!” He came to a halt next to Rowena and sat down with a growl. The food was laid out before him on several platters; ham, bacon, eggs and bread were just a few of the items.
Helga, who was sitting on Rowena’s other side mumbled, “If I were the sort of person, I’d blast a hole right through your middle you ungrateful...”
Rowena placed a hand on Helga’s arm then turned to Slytherin and spoke calmly, “That is their job Salazar.” She noticed that he wasn’t listening to her so she reached over and pulled his plate away from him. He gave her a nasty look and she went on, “Do you honestly think we’d be eating out here,” she motioned around at the Great Hall, “if they weren’t here? Do you think we’d have this much food at our disposal? Would any of us have time for more than our duties to finish this castle if we had the continuing worry about cleanliness or something as mundane as fixing our own food?”
“Fine,” he said pulling his plate back to him, “but I still don’t like them.”
Rowena looked at Helga with a smile which Helga slowly returned. Helga wasn’t too happy with Salazar Slytherin and was wishing for Godric’s quick return. “Godric should be back today.” she said aloud trying to change the subject.
“And he is!” said Godric striding into view through the great double doors that led into the Great Hall. He was immediately surrounded by a dozen of the little elves all jumping up and down to welcome him home.
“We is glad you is home sir!” piped a dark tan one.
“We is missing you sir!” added a light green one.
Another elf popped into being off to the side of Godric. “What is all of you doing?” the elf demanded in a high pitched voice, obviously a girl. “We is not here to be talking! We is here to work.” She walked up to one of the tan ones and yanked it’s ear. “Go fix Master Godric something to eat!” She grabbed another one by the ear before it could escape, “Go fix Master’s chambers!”
Godric, who’d been turning a pretty shade of pink, much to the delight of the women, spoke up, “There’s no need for tha.....”
“Master Godric does not know what he is saying sir,” she said in as no non-sense a tone as an elf could get, “Come sir, you must sit, eat, drink, rest!” she grabbed his hand and led him like a child to the table and sat him down next to Helga, who was trying her best not to laugh.
By the time his plate was in front of him, food packed so high on it that it was falling off the sides, his face was a bright crimson.
Slytherin cracked a small gloating smile and jibed at Godric, “Wonderful little creatures, eh?” Before anyone could say a word, he got up and walked from the Hall saying, “Even though the entertainment is quite grand, I have other, more important, things that need my attention.”
sorry that's not much of a post but it's 10pm here and i have school tomorrow.. night!!
